Where should we have our family reunion?

My husband's family is trying to plan a family reunion next summer/fall and we're looking for a place to hold it, but we have a number of restrictions. Can you help us find a place? The limitations and specifics are below the fold.

The family consists of 9 adults (4 married couples and a single woman) and 7 kids between the ages of 4.5 years old and 8 months. So it would be great if it could be somewhat family friendly, but also somewhere adults without kids can have fun. It would be great if there were beaches or hiking trails or outdoorsy type activities.

As far as location, three of the families are in the midwest (St. Louis and eastern Iowa), one family is in LA, and one is in San Francisco. Ideally, we would be in a spot somewhat close to a major airport (for the west coast contingent flying in) and within maybe 6 hours' drive of St. Louis and eastern Iowa.

We're fine with having one very large cabin or house with 5-6 bedrooms for the whole family to stay in one place. Or we could have something with separate cottages for each family, but we'd want all the cottages to be close together.

As for budget, we'd like to stay under $600 per family for the week.

We'd like to have the reunion in the late summer or early fall, but we can be somewhat flexible on that since we don't have school schedules to consider.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Southwest Michigan? It's just about a 6 hour drive from both eastern Iowa and St. Louis. I like St. Joseph, but it's pretty all up and down the coast. Lots of rental houses and cottages.

If the $600 doesn't include travel, maybe Estes Park -- lots of lodges/cabins/etc. around there and an easy enough shuttle (although maybe about an hour) from the Denver airport. It's centrally located for everyone, at least. It's definitely a beautiful area (although weather can be variable) and has enough diversity of places/activities for your group. (I was at a wedding/family reunion there a few years ago and I really liked it.)

Plus, it has The Shining Hotel if your family is into that.

+1 to flying into Denver!

Estes Park is beautiful but you might have better luck at one of the ski hill areas like Breckenridge. Off-season rates for condos and houses tend to be good and there are lots of family-friendly hikes in the area, some places have a pool and there are other toddler activities.

I went to a conference at this state park inn in Indiana. It was a fairly easy drive from O'Hare but you could probably find another, similar location that would be easier locations wise. Just thought I would encourage you to check out state parks.

Come to Nashville! Six hour drive from St. Louis. Little further from Eastern IA. Non-stops from LAX and OAK. Lots of fun.

$600/family gets you into LaQuinta, Comfort Suites territory. Also good options at extended stay places.
