USPS mail volume data

Is it possible to get monthly or yearly data on the volume of incoming and outgoing mail from each US post office?

I know USPS publishes aggregate statistics on mail volume, but I am interested in the number of letters and packages being processed through each physical office. Has this ever been published or FOIAed?

I think you might be able to get some of this from the Delivery Statistics File database (scroll to Section 1.12), but I'm basing my guess heavily on the methodology of this research on New Orleans population post-Katrina.

I've also noticed (because my local post office is scheduled for closing) that the news articles about POs scheduled to be closed almost always have mail processing stats at the station or plant level so clearly the journalists are getting that data from somewhere. Could be USPS, could be the American Postal Workers Union, could be the folks at Save the Post Office (who I would definitely suggest contacting).

Sorry I can't point you directly to a source, but these should provide some directions to keep going down.
