Shopping - Help me find a wallet just like this, except it works!

My wife found her dream wallet, but its card pockets were too small. I'd like to surprise her with one like it, but am having a hard time finding similar things. It is the JOYN Navy zig-zag wallet - Here it is at TOMS, where we found it.

We bought it, only to be super disappointed when the thing turned out to be useless - its spots for credit cards are just slightly too small for credit cards to fit! It seems like just bad design - the clasp is stitched all the way through the pockets, so it makes the pockets about 1/8-1/16" smaller inside than they appear.

We returned it. I'd love to get her a similar but better one as a gift.
She loved the overall shape, bill-size, with a zipper pouch inside for coins and lots of room (theoretically) for cards. The cool fabric flap over the top was part of the appeal too.

Does anyone have a lead on where to find wallets designed like that? Except they work?

Another option would be an etsy/etc seller that makes nice custom wallets, if you have recommendations for those.

Also, the fact that it's from a cool fair-trade supplier is definitely nice, but I don't think it was part of the essential appeal.

Thanks!

You could try shaving down your credit cards, a 1/16th or so will not be missed so long as you do not impact the magnetic strip.

These are two examples from companies with nice leather goods:

Iris Flap wallet from The Sak - has a flap and comes in various fabrics.

MyWalit trifold purse wallet - best wallets ever!

I have a Patricia Nash purse that is very well made. The wallets aren't a close match for what you want but here they are if your wife's tastes run to boho or Western.

I checked Fossil, but they didn't have anything that seemed to fit the example.

Lots of stuff at eBags (these are around the price you paid for the original):

- Leather with decorative zigzag stitching
- From the same company, with leather "X" stitching
- This one comes in many, many colors (including that bright yellow)
- With perforated pattern on the flap

Sort by "clutch" style wallets, and there are over 400. There were some cool hand-painted ones by Anuschka that range from $30-ish to $100-ish, if it's the handmade feel that's the important thing...?

The Maximo style of wallets at Queen Bee Creations are pretty similar, and their products are always good quality.

Did you contact the retailer and explore the possibility that the wallet they sent was merely defective? They might have others of the same model that actually work.

Just wanted to let you know that the type of wallet your wife likes is called an "Accordion Wallet" and you can enter this term on a search engine if you're willing to take the time to look through a bunch of options. Here's an example: http://www.ebags.com/product/anuschka/accordion-flap-wallet/246023?productid=10221288

Response by poster: Thanks for all the tips, everyone! I've contacted the maker, and we'll see what they say.
I'll look through all the links, it really helps to know what it's called.
