Recommend a novel or series of novels for fans of The Good Wife!

I am searching for novels that provide some of the same pleasures of CBS's acclaimed legal drama "The Good Wife," but in textual form! See inside for specifics about what makes this particular plate of procedural beans so special.

"The Good Wife" centers on Alicia Florrick, a rising star in a full-service Chicago law firm and the wife of a philandering, ambitious politician. Here is a list of things that make it compelling to me and that I would like to find in novel form:

--a mix of legal and political stories--the show splits its attention between the cases handled by Alicia's firm and the various problems that crop up in her husband's political life
--a wide spectrum of legal topics--since Alicia's firm is full-service, she works on cases as varied as nasty divorces, death row appeals, intellectual property disputes, class-action lawsuits, etc.
--interesting & compelling female characters
--detail-oriented plot points take precedence over more soapy emotional arcs--which isn't to say that soapy emotional arcs aren't there, just that they're more subtle and the "business" comes first
--extremely technical material that could be excruciating if handled badly but is instead made fascinating
--a focus on technology and the socio/political/legal implications thereof

Sara Paretsky's VI books scratch a lot of the same itch as TGW. Long emotional arcs, expert knowledge and intelligence and law and ethics.

Nthing Scott Turow. He's like John Grisham for smart people.

I'll recommend Richard North Patterson, especially the Kerry Kilcannon series.
