How to get rid of a table in Oakland

How do you get rid of furniture in Oakland?

My wife and I have a long coffee table we want to get rid of. Googling seems to lead me to believe that the best answer is the random Oakland trash day when they accept large items or calling a very expensive trash service.

How can I best (and most cheaply) get rid of this table as soon as possible?

See if Urban Ore will pick it up.

Craigslist with pictures and you might be able to get a bit of cash for it.

Barring that, Craigslist free section and freecycle.

Every weirdo thing I've posted in free Craigslist (especially if i include pictures and measurements) had been gone within 24 hours. A coffee table will definitely go.

I'm not necessarily advocating this, but leaving it on the curb is the informal system in my part of town. This is a crappy way to dispose of (say) a mattress, but a decent table will get taken.

Are you on Nextdoor? A ton of used stuff gets sold/given away on my neighborhood page (and it's fun to connect with neighbors, too); it seems less flaky than craigslist.
Seriously, if you aren't on a remote, twisty street in the hills, anything you put on the curb will vanish in the hour.

Craigslist free section. Or list it for 5 bucks.

Free on craigslist. Post it, with pictures and measurements, and put it on your front porch or sidewalk. It'll be gone in a day.

Urban Ore won't get off its ass for anything less than the Hearst Castle estate sale these days.

Also, I have successfully gotten a six pack and a pint of Ben & Jerry's for this sort of thing. If you want to bother.

If craigslist and the curb fail you, you can schedule one free bulky trash pickup per year.

I think that's only true if you're in a house, not an apartment. (At least it was when I lived there.)

Ask for like $5 on Craigslist. I also have the number for a really great hauler if you need.

If you live near a well-traveled corner, leave it there in the morning. If it's not gone by the afternoon it's the world's most unloved furniture item, so take it to the dump or list it someplace.

Freecycle?

Just put it by the side of the road, with a curb alert on Craigslist free if it is still there in a half hour. (It probably will be gone by then though)

Leave at curb with sign, "$5, leave money in mail slot."

It will be gone pretty much instantly.

Or, donate it to the GoodWill or another thrift shop?
Assuming it is in sellable condition.

Put it on the curb! I would be shocked if it didn't disapper pretty quickly. If it does not, you can always make a Plan B, but it seems worth it to at least try.

It's generally pretty easy to sell decent furniture (with a half-decent photo) on Craigslist for $20. Add a bowl of fruit to the table, and you may be able to get $50.

BUT: if you use Craigslist to sell it or give it away, and you want people to contact you, ONLY use email, and ask them to list their phone numbers. This way, you won't get inundated with phone calls, and you can manage the contacts pretty easily.

Just don't do what the assholes do in my neighborhood, which is drive by and dump their crappy stained/broken furniture on the sidewalk in front of my house, or the dog park across the street.

Alameda county waste management will do a bulky item pick for you free of charge if your residence is serviced by them. You schedule the time. If you are the home owner, contact the number on your bill. If you are a renter, contact your landlord.

If your residence is not serviced by wm, break up the table and take to the Davis street dump in San Leandro. This should cost you no more than ~$25 depending on what there current rate is.

You could also break it up into to smaller pieces and toss it in with your regular garbage.

Put it on craigslist with a picture, or drive it down to Goodwill. The one on East 14th is open every day until 8 pm (Sundays until 6). I've done both with all kinds of stuff.
