What is really going on in Mexico?

Does anyone have a reputable account or the inside-scoop on the recent student protests/murders/disappearances/mass graves in Mexico? So surreal and terrifying. Links and anecdata welcome.

Best answer: My friend Daniel is an incredible news reporter (he moved to VICE from the LA Times and is the VICE Mexico bureau chief). Here's his story and another recent report from his bureau. Reporting continues.
