How did Lewis Libby get the nickname "Scooter"?

Not being sarcastic or funny, I'd really like to know.

You know, I wonder whether that's not it. I don't know that I buy the "zooming around the crib" story.

But what do I know.

Best answer: When covering the story one of the first things the BBC did was clear up the nickname.

Response by poster: I'm not sure I buy it either, but until someone links and tells me otherwise, it's all I've got.

Best answer: The BBC article is correct but not complete; Libby's father gave him the nickname as an infant because he scooted around his crib and as a comparison to Phil Rizzuto of the Yankees.

It's a pretty common preppy nickname, by the way. I've known several Scooters.

The real story: A bout of intestinal worms that went untreated for a summer when he was a kid.

Piggy-back question now that the above question has been answered: why would anyone over 13 want to be called Scooter?
