What is the symbol in this geoglyph?

This geoglyph appears in Jiayuguan province, near the western end of the Great Wall of China. It appears to be made out of planted trees. What does it mean?

I think it's the word 龍 (lóng, "dragon") rendered in cursive calligraphy. Specifically, it resembles the character labeled with a 3 in this image, which is the one by Huai Su.

I found an article! I'm relying on Google Translate but it seems like it is simply a large piece of land art constructed to mark the 2000-2001 year of the dragon.
