How come every time i download or open an mpeg from a website it opens up in a small quicktime screen on another page? I want it to be downloaded and opened using windows media player? Only started happening since i bought a new computer!

IE or Fire Fox?

Check your quicktime plug-in and file associations in your Control Panel.

If you're using FireFox, try this extension. It will open streaming media in an external player (you have to specify what player in the options).

Also, when it's not a in-page stream, you could always try right-clicking on the link and select download. If you are using IE, you can change the video viewer settings by Tools -> Options -> Advanced -> (scroll down to Multimedia) and uncheck the Play videos in web pages.
