I need help translating this morse code message into English!

I have used different translators out there (it has translated into dashes and dots, but I must be missing something since it translates from .-- to DI DAH and DITS. There is supposed to be a secret message and used to find longitude/latitude coordinates used in geocaching.

Anyone know how to translate AMERICAN morse code (not international) and could lend some help in decoding this?

Thanks Mefe!

Taking just the first line of your message there and changing the dahs to - and the dis and dits to . I got this: - .... . -- .- --. -. . - - .... .- - .. .. . . ..- -. . . -.. - . . ... . . -.- .--

Plunked that into a translator and I got

THEMAGNETTHATIIEEUNEEDTEESEEKW

The magnet that I ?? need to seek...

This is interesting at all but I'm at work and probably shouldn't sit here and manually - all your dahs and . all your dis but so far it seems like this is the right track.

American Morse is rarely used anymore, even in America, but most of the above translation are using International codes, which is why they're garbled. The most obvious problem is that a long dash ("daaah" in the above transcription) is an L, not a T, which is why the ninth word should be 'WILL', not 'WITT'. Translating AMC to characters is a bit tricky, since there are spacers in some characters; "Didit dit' could be 'C' or 'IE' depending on context (the above strings of 'I's and 'E's in translation almost certainly include some 'C's, 'R's, 'X's, and 'Y's.

Dit Dit = EE
Dit dit = O
Didit = I

Upper case signals a new letter. Lower case goes with what comes before it, in a character that contains a long space.

Check the chart on the Wikipedia page.

I did a few global substitutions on other people's work to replace certain IMC translations with their AMC versions, and editied a bit by hand to fix the clearly broken bits and got this first draft:

THE MAGNET THAT YOU NEED TO SEEK WILL GIVE YOU THE LOCATION OF THE FINAL AND IT CAN BE FOUND AT A PARK ON BUNKER HILL ST THE FIRST STAGE IS NOT FAR FROM HERE LOCATE ST MARTIN CORNER AND ELP TO RI THE BLACK OF THE FENCI WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT

Kinda falls apart near the end, I'm afraid.

THE FIRST STAGE IS NOT FAR FROM HERE. LOCATE ST MARTIN CORNER AND EXPLORE THE BLACK OF THE FENCE. WHAT HATH GOD WROUGHT!

Jack Bishop: The end makes sense because "What hath God wrought?" was the first message telegraph message sent by Samuel Morse.

Based on the message the cache you are looking for is in the corner of the Doherty Playground near the intersection of Bunker Hill Street and Saint Martin St in Boston, MA. From Google Street View, the black fence is located at about 25 Saint Martin Street approximately latitude 42.382172 and longitude -71.068433.

FWIW, the "falls apart near the end" I was thinking of was the whole "ELP TO RI THE BLACK OF THE FENCI" bit where I was certain I was parsing wrong, but didn't have the patience to figure out the right breakdown.

Sorry, I thought you meant the "What hath God wrought" part. That struck me as odd at first, but then I remembered there is a historical marker in Beltsville, MD along the route of the telegraph wires Morse used.

Or maybe there is a black wrought iron fence with the magnet stuck to it.
