Can anyone supply information about the events leading to this series of photographs? Where did it happen, what was the occasion for the ride, was anyone seriously hurt, etc?

Another good example of when it might be best to put down the camera and go help.

Best answer: The page you linked to says, 'O acidente foi na Rússia, dia primeiro de outubro (01/10/2005), não teve nenhuma vitima fatal até o momento. Mas dois dos envolvidos permanecem em coma.'

Translated: The accident was in Russia, on the first of October, there haven't been any fatalities, but two of the bikers involved are still in comas.

That looks a lot like the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in the background. If it is, then the only six-lane bridge that lines up with it is this one (scroll about three screens east), but maybe it's too far away.

I think you need a different rock to grind that axe on; the last thing that situation needed was another squishy body (and likely w/o leathers) walking around amongst all that hard metal. Staying out till all the pile-on was over was the responsible thing to do.

Agreed, phearlez. If you look at this pic, you'll notice one of the bikers jumping over the middle railing to get to the other (safer) side.
