Seeking great cherry pie delivered in midtown NYC

A relative is recuperating from surgery in midtown Manhattan. I would like to get an awesome cherry pie and have it delivered to him in the next couple of days.

So, I'm looking for two things:
  1. Bakeries in Manhattan that make great cherry pies.
  2. Reliable delivery services in Manhattan that will pick up a cherry pie and deliver it to midtown Manhattan
If the bakery delivers than we can skip item 2.

My relative is located at 64th Street and Central Park West. He's from Michigan, to the extent that matters in terms of cherry pie preferences.

You might have a hard time finding a (good) cherry pie since it's winter.

This is an excellent pie place, but you'd need to find a delivery service for that (Taskrabbit maybe?), and they don't have cherry at the moment.

You could also call the pastry/orchard places that are at the Saturday Tucker Square farmers market a few blocks away and see if they'd accommodate your request.

Pain d'Epices is an awesome bakery in the neighborhood and they do custom cakes and things, so they might make you a pie.

Honestly, the best bet for availability is going to be the area diners (Utopia, Westside, Old John's), but I can't vouch for quality.

PM me if you still can't find anyone by Saturday...I'll do it for $50.

Maybe try Two Little Red Hens (a fabulous bakery; call them and make sure their cherry pie's in stock) + the WunWun app if you have an iphone, or try Postmates otherwise. (I have no experience with either service, but WunWun at least has excellent reviews).

Or call Dean & Deluca soho at (212) 226-6800 -- they have a wonderful selection of pies and many other things. I think they do delivery.

Goldbely has a couple of different cherry pies available for delivery, but I am not sure how long shipping takes- I haven't ordered from them before.

Seconding Two Little Red Hens. Also, The Little Pie Company makes a great cherry pie and they do deliver overnight. But I also suggest you call them, because cherries are not in season right now.

Response by poster: [Belatedly following up.]

After many phone calls we ordered a cherry pie from Two Little Red Hens and had it delivered by a Task Rabbit. The pie was apparently delicious, the Task Rabbit did a great job, and our friend was thrilled and surprised by the gift. We couldn't have done it without Metafilter.

Thank you!
