You're MythTV, no good for me

A friend purchased a generic smart TV box (running Android 4.2) for use as a PVR for her elderly mother for Christmas, but is seeking a port of the MythTV back-end. It seems like it should be simple, but neither of us has been able to find an answer. Compiling the source code is apparently not an option as that would void the warranty and they are not comfortable. Does anyone know of an alternative that isn't a paid subscription service (a TV guide like ICE TV) for Australia that will work? I'm not that smart in PVRs, but we are both comfortable with Linux at different levels.

So are you looking for a free EPG?
If so go through NextPVE forums. I believe the guy who develops it is in Aus or NZ. There's a good PVR user base from Aus/NZ there.

Do you mean an alternative EPG? I think this depends on your definition of "work" - there's a reason why ICE TV is able to charge. If "works mostly" is okay, then the freeview epg should do the job.

But I'm not sure that's the alternative you're looking for rather than a program etc?
