Please help track down the fabric used for my premie twins in the NICU
October 31, 2013 2:12 AM

(Metafilter long shot special) My two MCMA twin girls were born at 32 weeks and were in the NICU for a while. They are big bouncing babies now and doing really well, but I would very much like to find the fabric used on the quilt that they were given while they were in intensive care.

I've looked every where in every variation of 'lucky cat' + japanese + beach ball type search string, but just can't find it at all. I've tried google image search and ended up with some very odd beige photos, but no dice. I would like to make them a quilt with this fabric, and this kind of insane search seems like Ask Metafilter's forte. The fabric seems to have all kinds of lucky things on it from Japanese culture.

Here is the quilt the day the girls got to co-bed.

Here is another picture of it, and our tiny babies having a cuddle.

(Here are the big bouncing babies now!

You're in luck, it is on ebay - asian kitty kimono. Not much of it, but they might be able to get more.

The fabric is called "Kitty Kimono" and the color is rust. It's available here.

Nice work, I think between those various descriptions - brand is Benartex - you are bound to be able to find it now!

A tangential answer but do want to pass along that it's possible those quilts were made by volunteers for Quilts for Kids, which is a wonderful group. They have very easy patterns to follow and I've been having my middle and high school students and donate these to Children's Hospital in Boston for years now. Your babies' quilts may have a Quilts for Kids tag on them somewhere. If there is said tag, the organization loves getting pictures of satisfied babies.

And your babies are very sweet.
