Interesting things in Aalborg?

Food, drink and sites in Denmark's fourth city?

I am off to a conference in Aalborg, Denmark on Sunday for 5 days. There are likely to be some sessions too far out of my area of interest for me to hang around for and I would like the opportunity to see a bit more of local interest. I will likely pick up a city bike to get about on. I am interested in short-ish local bike routes (up to 10km) and interesting places to eat - for a couple of dinners but I would like to try some good quality smorrebrod if possible. I will have PhD students with me so some places to drink without totally breaking the bank would also be useful (if possible). I am also interested in renewable energy so any sites of historical interest relating to that topic would be good to hear about too.

Best answer: I'm going to Aalborg Friday! I wish I had answers to your question, for my own sake.
The Art Museum "Kunsten" is supposed to be excellent. And partying is done in "Jomfru Anes Gade", but your hosts will know about that.
Googling in Danish, it seems the restaurant at the Utzon Center, on the harbor, has good smörrebröd. This place gets good reviews as well.
Aalborg has tons and tons of windmills, and there is a project for sustainable housing, but I have no idea where that is right now.
Aalborg is a university town, which is good, but also has a somewhat seedy reputation. It's not at all a tourist destination, and in some ways, that is definitely a charm. You get authentic Danish culture, for what it's worth.
If I had the time, I think I'd go sailing on the fjord, which has been significant since the stone ages, and with even more time, I'd go out to Aggersborg, but that is more than a bike-ride away.

Response by poster: We had the smorrebrod at the Utzon Centre for lunch today and it was excellent. Thanks for the recommendation.

We went drinking at Sjogaard's Bryghus last night and the beer was great.
