Where can I bring about 20 friends who were planning to meet me tonight in central park for a birthday gathering? Storm clouds are brewing and I need a good backup, like a bar. Help me save the day!!

Response by poster: (Just in case there are other central parks out there, this is in New York. I posted in haste!)

Also, the Dakota Bar might be empty, since it's a Monday night. Columbus and 72nd.

FatCat for space and activity. Parlour if you need space plus need to be uptown. You might be able to reserve the bottom level if you guarantee a tab. Or basically any bar on the UES (2nd/3rd aves).

Response by poster: Just a quick add: We are going to be near 68th Street on the UWS. Anything nearer there (like the suggestion of the Dakota Bar) might be easiest for us. We are lugging picnic items.

Just FYI, it's unlikely that any bar around there is going to be cool with your group breaking out your picnic food on the premises.

Response by poster: Yeah, we're not going to do that, slkinsey — we'd keep it in the bags and drink. I only mentioned that since we are carrying stuff and longer distances will be hard. But thanks.

Rent a party bus for a few hours, get sloshed, have your picnic, and if the weather doesn't improve, take everybody home at the end!
