Splitting an mpeg video into smaller files

I am in the process of transferring several home videos from vhs tapes to mpeg files on my computer. I have transferred each vhs tape to a single file on my computer. Each file is roughly 3 - 6gb. Each vhs tape consisted of several clips that were recorded on different dates. So, I'd like to split each of the larger files into several smaller files. Is there a simple to use program that will allow me to achieve this.

I like virtualdub for stuff like this. You can also compress it at the same time if you like.

Mpg2Cut2 is built for exactly this use case.

Videoredo is excellent software for this, but not free. Whatever you do, make sure you try a trial version first.

Windows Live Movie Maker (built in to Windows 7) is a basic video editor that could do this easily.

You just open your video, then use the Trim function to choose the bit you want to keep - it's as easy as moving a start slider and a finish slider. Then export your final video.

Re-open the original video, now use the sliders to select the second segment, etc...
