US equivalent of Desert Island Discs?

Please help me identify a program I heard on US public radio in the late eighties or early nineties. The choreographer Mark Morris brought some of his favorite records to play and discuss. A search for his name on the BBC Desert Island Discs site returns no results, so this must have been a different program with the same concept. TIA, hivemind!

A quick search turned up this section of his website that has four episodes of what he calls Music I Want You To Hear that he apparently put on while being a guest lecturer at Centenary College in 2009. They were played on NPR affliate WNYC. Could this be it? I know you said late 80s/early 90s, but it basically sounds like this.

There was something similar on Kroc or Kroc in the 90s on Sunday nights I think.

Response by poster: What I heard is definitely not the series from 2009, but thanks for turning that up as I'll certainly want to give it a listen.
