comfortable, good audio quality computer headset w/ mic
June 11, 2013 6:43 AM

Hi there, My workplace is moving to softphones instead of physical desk phones. We have some employees that are on the phone about 80% to 100% of the day and I'd like to help find some very comfortable headsets that have good mic quality and hopefully aren't super expensive.

Hi there,
My guess is that in the $50 - $100 range would be acceptable. My preference would be to find some that are around the ear, not on the ear. But, I guess in a best case, we could give people a choice from a few different models.

There are a few threads, the newest I could find is from 2010.

I'm not sure how much the "unified communication" features matter. I used Skype as my work phone for a few years and just used the on screen controls. So, I'm also planning to look at gaming headsets. As for connectivity, USB / audio jack / etc is less important, since we can always buy adapters.

Thanks.

I highly recommend the Antlion Modmic which can turn any pair of headphones into a headset. I'm in love with mine and use it daily.

I currently use it with these awesome-sounding, comfortable headphones (which I also highly recommend, though they might be slightly out of your budget) that are clones of acclaimed Denon headphones which cost over $125 when they were on the market.

The ModMic, which is about $40 including shipping (at least to Canada), is compared to mics which cost well over $100 and is, to many, even better than mics in high-end $300+ Sennheiser headsets.

Again, highly recommended!

Oh, and if you wish to hear what the ModMic sounds like you can find quite a few sound samples of it on YouTube.

At the end of April, I got the Logitech G930 wireless headphone/microphone combo. Sound quality has been really good, the circumaural speakers and headband are pretty comfortable, the wireless feature is danged handy and the price has dropped in the past month -- I bought it at $116, it's currently $85. (Grr!) It does cut out occasionally when I walk into a different room from the transmitter, but otherwise it works great.
