Website for murder methods?
June 9, 2013 12:23 PM
I remember years ago hearing about a book which explained different methods of murder and poisoning. It listed methods of killing people, and methods of maiming or poisoning people, along with symptoms. It was aimed, of course, at authors who write murder mysteries.
Does anyone know if this book still exists, or if there is a website with a similar purpose? I have a particularly nasty character who I'd like to see die a slow death caused by poison!

Maybe How to Solve a Murder? Or one of the others on this list - it seems like a popular sub-subgenre.

It was the "Howdunit Series" from Writer's Digest, and the specific book you're referring to is, "Cause of Death : A Writer's Guide to Death, Murder and Forensic Medicine."

Perhaps you're thinking of Deborah Blum's The Poisoner's Handbook?

You might be thinking of Hit Man: A Technical Manuel for Independent Contractors which was the subject of a widely reported case out of the Fourth Circuit back in 1997 called Rice v. Paladin Enterprises, Inc.

Notmyselfrightnow mentions one book from the Howdunit series. A sister book from the same series focused strictly (and in more depth) on poisons is Deadly Doses. I've got them both packed away somewhere...

Not your book, but one of the most amazing AskMe answers of all time... about what to do with the body.

O.M.G.
Would it be weird if I said I'd always wondered the best way to do that...
Anyway, thank you all for your answers. I will look into all your suggestions.
