Where to honeymoon near central coast of Maine?

We are getting married towards the end of September near Bath, Maine. We want to go on a fairly short, cheap honeymoon in or around that area. We've thought about PEI, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, even Quebec City--where have you been in this area that's romantic? Am missing a cute New England town that would be closer/cheaper/still an adventure?

About us: we like being outside, tasty food, interesting culture. Biking and kayaking are things we hope to do on this trip. I need to be able to cook my own food so B&Bs are probably out, but hostels are okay. We will bring a car if necessary or leave it if it's not.
I've lived in Boston so that's out, but I'd love to hear anywhere else you've been that might fit the bill!

If you don't mind an initial schlep you might enjoy a place like Quoddy Head Station. It's in Lubec and you can scoot out to Campobello Island (Canada!) which has great hiking/biking and neat history. The rates aren't the cheapest but when I was there we stayed in the Lodge and besides the lovely view, each room had a small kitchen in it. There is a lot of good hiking and biking nearby, though not too much in the way of food/culture besides the great outdoors and a small coastal town.

Mount Washington, Bretton Woods and Franconia Notch - a stunning area with many gorgeous natural attractions. If you are really fit, the Presidential Traverse has beautiful views and nice hostels.

How about St Andrews by the Sea? It's only a 4 hour drive from Bath and it meets all your criteria!

You'll be very close to Pemaquid Point (which I think is the most beautiful place in New England) and Monhegan island, which is where my parents honeymooned.

My wife and I stayed in NE Harbor on the southern edge of Acadia National Park. We had a nice trail with immediate access to the park on foot from our inn and no crowds! I would recommend looking in this location over Bar Harbor, which is too crowded.
