Locksmithing as a career

I am interested in studying to be a locksmith. Does anyone know how much schooling is involved and an average salary for a locksmith in the Northeast (Northampton County, PA)?
If you can thoroughly read and understand the MIT Guide to Lockpicking, I would guess that you could keep up with any other training required for the job. You might also check out TOOOL.

If you can stand to read the semi-literate MIT Guide linked above, you're probably really motivated to learn this stuff.
The collision force at the sheer [sic, used repeatedly] line resists the pressure of the pick . . .
Many factors effect [sic] this order
etc.
Someone at one of the West's great engineering schools who doesn't know the difference between sheer and shear? Disturbing.
