How do I create nested footnotes in iWork Pages 08, or Microsoft Word 08?

I want to insert multiple layers of footnotes into my text.¹ Can you help me do this? If not with Pages or Word, then what can I use to do this?

This link says it is not really possible in Word but gives a workaround that seems to do the job, but I have not tried it myself.

I'm pretty sure you cannot do that in Pages either. In fact, I don't think you can have mixed endnotes and footnotes in Pages, which you can in Word.

Response by poster: Turns out that an easier option is just to create a fake footnote through careful use of formatting in the footer and the superscript command.
