Looking for family friendly hotel or airbnb flat for May in NYC, for visiting pals.

An old friend is visiting NYC for a graduation in May and seeks place to stay. I live here, so I never get hotels. So when you visit or vacation in New York with children, where do you stay? Bonus points for west side (upper or midtown) or the Marriot chain. Thanks everyone!

When I was looking for a hotel room in New York for work a few years ago, a colleague just said to use Priceline and bid for rooms in hotels that are 3 star or better near Times Square for $200/night. I've had good luck with Hotwire - I once got a room in a really nice hotel for cheap and recently, I got a room at the Holiday Inn Express in Times Square for a little more than $200/night. But I'm looking forward to seeing what others have to say.

The hotel Beacon has kitchenettes and is across from Fairway.

Let me recommend airbnb in general and, specifically, this Upper West Side apartment that I stayed in last August with my sister. Two bedrooms, accommodates four comfortably. Just under $200/night and seems to be available in May. Host is very helpful - and your friends will have the apartment to themselves.
