is Writer's Market dot com worth the subscription cost?

I'm a freelance writer in the second year of my career, as well as a lifelong creative writer with several published works. I've done a lot of performing arts blogging and local news writing and I'd like to build on that and get into more paying work as well as increase my publication credits. I've been recommended to join Writer's Market. Have others had worthwhile experiences with the service? Also happy to hear about other options. Thanks!

Best answer: I've used it a couple times. The upside is there is a ton of stuff in there. The downside is, there's a ton of stuff in there and, as of the last time I used it, the search functions aren't great, so I'd spend hours combing through things that were totally irrelevant for me in search of the rare gem of what I actually wanted. I had/have a lot better time using Craigslist and boards like Absolute Write for nonfiction/blogging-type gigs and Duotrope for fiction guidelines.

Libraries usually have the print version of Writer's Market and they have different versions for children's and poetry.

I know that my local library in Washington has the newest versions.

Response by poster: It seems backward to rely on a print version of this. It would be like using a phone book. Wouldn't the website be constantly updated?

Publishers' contact information doesn't change that quickly.
