Finding a home for an older dog.

I have to get rid of my eleven-year old dog (shepherd-something mix) because my wife has developed asthma. He's a house pet, good with other people and animals. Any ideas what I should do? Where to go? I am in the suburbs north of NYC.

Post on Craigslist describing your dog, and specifying what kind of home you want to find for him. Go check out the peoples' house, and be sure they are taking care of their other pets, and don't have too many. If you feel good about the family, give them the dog.

Find your local Humane Society, SPCA, etc.

Pets911.com, Petfinder.org, and 1-800-Save-A-Pet.com can all help you find local shelters and stuff.

This is going to be really, really tough on such an old dog. Are there really no options, such as granting him a side room of the house which your wife doesn't frequent?
