Emergency Kindle rations needed, stat!

Need sub $15 Kindle book recommendation to weather the Big Storm.

In the path of Sandy, hunkering down with the Kindle. Need dark-and-stormy-but-not-too-stormy-night book recommendation to buy in case the lights go out. The longer the book, the better. I have the classics pretty much covered but am open to all suggestions. Under $15 would be best.

It is not the greatest novel ever written, but for this situation I think Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth is pretty much perfect.

eugenen, I'm going to go for it. Lots of people I know raved about that book. The price is right, too. Thanks!

Isaac's Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History [Kindle Edition] $11.99 on Amazon.

Pratchett's latest (non-discworld) has a good storm or two in it. Dodger

I like all the Flavia de Luce mysteries, and there is at least one stormy one.

(stay safe)

...the follow-up to Pillars of the Earth, World Without End is also pretty good and an interesting sequel, though it takes place long after the events of the other book.

I bought The Pillars of the Earth for a dime at a used book store when we were driving from CA back to OR. I did not choose it because it was a prize winner, but because it was the biggest. I read until it was my turn to drive. Perfect.

The Passage by Justin Cronin. The sequel just came out, and is a super long book about a civilization-ending catastrophe.

My go-to recommendation is always Diana Gabaldon's "Outlander". I love it. It's huge, and there are 7 more that are just as huge and I love those too.

Here's Stormy Weather by Carl Hiassen. It's about the scammy, murdery aftermath of a big hurricane in Florida. He makes me laugh.

Can I dis-rec Outlander? Lots of skeevy rape/consent issues in there.

I'm reading Nixonland by Rick Perlstein and at 896 pages, it might last you the whole storm and then some. I'm not usually a history buff but this is really a superlative book.
