Affordable lodging for a month in Philly?

Looking for someone else: A place to stay in Philadelphia, for a month, affordably, public transportation to Broad and Girard a plus.

Someone is coming up to Philly to take a class at my school. She asked for recommendations of places to stay, and I didn't know what to suggest.

She'd be here for one month, and isn't looking to break the bank. She would need public transportation to Broad and Girard as well. Something close to, or convenient to city attractions would be good as well.

I am crap at looking up hotels, hostels, serviced apartments, extended stay places, then trying to figure out the differences and comparing them. Total crap at it, so I'd appreciate some help.

She didn't specify a price range, and I thought it rude to inquire, so I said I'd get back to her with stuff in a range of prices.

I was wondering if you guys could offer any suggestions that I could pass along - personal positive experience appreciated!

Thanks!

Summer means students subletting out their yearly leased places. Craigslist, probably west philly/University City; plenty of buses all over the place

I used to recommend a site called padmapper but I guess CL closed its api to them now?
