How do I transfer/play dvd video to iPad3?
How do I transfer DVD videos to iPad?
Is it as simple as using handbrake to code them to mp4 and then drop them into iTunes on my computer?
I have handbrake already, and have a whole series of exercise DVDs that I would like to carry with me.
Working with a new iMac OS x.7 and iPad 3.
I am not interested in sharing the video, just playing it on my machine.
I am not interested in streaming, as I will not always have a strong enough wireless connection and don't want to burn up my data allotment.
I checked the site thinking there must have been an answer, but I couldn't find it.
Thanks! That's it!

Yep, exactly. Pick the iPad preset in Handbrake, tell it to encode, drag the MP4 into the iPad in iTunes, and that's it.

ALSO - in about 1/6 rips I get an audio lag, and no matter how many times I redo it, it seems forever tainted. I don't know if this is a problem with Handbrake, the original source file, my computer, my ipad, or gnome trickery.

Mostly yes. You may need to install VLC as well for the decrypting process but that's also easy.

Elizardbits: I've had the same problem a couple of times (OS X with Handbrake), but only with animated shows. My guess is a Handbrake glitch.

Response by poster: It worked perfectly!
There are some issues with separating out the chapters and getting everything in the correct order (the series is 12 DVDs that all have a million chapters that are not sequential), but it went flawlessly.
A note to anyone doing this: After you open handbrake, it may prompt you (depending on the DVD you are using) to download libdvdcss.pkg via a link to translate it properly. After you do that it will work perfectly.
Thanks, everybody!
