Hawthorne short story

Which Hawthorne story is this?

A man disappears on his wife and takes up residence in a house around the corner. She assumes he has died, but he returns 20 years later with no explanation.

If this helps any, the story was an inspiration for Paul Auster's Ghosts, from the New York Trilogy.

Is this ringing any bells?
