Month to month apartments near Ft. Lauderdale?

Where can I find a place to rent for 3-4 months (or month to month) in Florida near Boca Raton or Ft. Lauderdale this summer?

I quit my soul sucking job near Boston, and though I am finding jobs up here, I'd really like to move somewhere warm where I can go surfing.

For a variety of reasons, the Ft. Lauderdale / Boca Raton area has been chosen, but where can I find a one bedroom place to rent (under say $1250/mo) while I hunt for a new job and figure out where I want to live?

Have you tried Craigslist?

Dude, you have a ton of options! Summer is the off season for Florida and there are tons of properties that go begging.

VRBO is a place to start for furnished digs.

forrent.com is a good place for unfurnished.

Not to mention all the funky motels with kitchenettes up and down A1A from Davie to Boca Raton.

Some communities to consider: Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point, Pompano Beach (although only on the beach!) even Delray Beach.

Have a great time, the world is your oyster!

You can just check the MLS listings for South Florida. Any number of brokers will have that stuff on their sites.

A couple useful things to know about the region: unlike New York or other northern cities, here landlords pay the broker's fees, not tenants. And also it's not uncommon to "make offers" on rentals. (Which blew my mind.) When we found an apartment in the region, it was listed at X, and the broker said "Well what do you want to offer?" and we were like "uhhh..??" and randomly told him "X-$200" and they were like, "Great!" Very, very weird.

Also be a little cautious to make sure what you're renting is legit. Lots of foreclosures and shady characters. :)

It is Florida after all!

For a short term rental, even if you do end up in a Foreclosure, as a renter you'll have rights, just be sure to sign a lease, even a month-to-month.
