Cabin in the Woods question. [Spoilers inside]

They mention in the movie that their last failure (blamed on the Chem department) was in 1998. Given the meta nature of the film, I assume that this refers to a specific movie(s). Any idea what it was?
IMDB has a list of horror moves from 98, but nothing really jumps out, with the exception of Ring which is a pretty obvious inspiration for the Japan scenario.

Best answer: According to the discussion boards on IMDB, it's The Faculty. This is the chem connection:
During a meeting in Mr. Furlong's (Jon Stewart) class, he enters the room and acts suspicious, leading to Mr. Furlong attempting to infect Zeke during a fight, but Zeke pulls out a pen filled with his drug, and jams it into Furlong's eye, which then shrivels the alien inside of him. It kills the organism since the drug is a diuretic and the aliens need a large amount of water to survive.

Having just seen Cabin In The Woods, this was not a maor question I had, but in looking for various threads: mind blown at having it answered by a film I loved back in '99. MeFi is awesome.
