Looking for a Hunter S Thompson story/column/allegory(?) about shooting a wolf. Little help?

I remember reading it in one of his collections of newspaper essays from the 80s. It was two columns... one was an in-depth story about killing (I think) an injured wolf on his property. The second was an explanation that the whole story was a metaphor for what needs to be done with (I think) the wounded Democratic party.

Any idea what book I can find them in and what their titles were?

Is this the first one you're thinking of? Click on the section called "Page 171" and look at the story called "A Death in the Family." It's from a collection called Generation of Swine.
