Help me find a hotel during Dragon*Con in Atlanta!!!

So, last year for D*C, my friends and I stayed at one of the airport hotels, because we were just really, really lazy and didn't bother getting a place until, like July. This year, I was charged with finding the hotel, and I reserved one of the con hotels for us.

And then, they canceled my reservation. After ten minutes of trying to figure out at least WHY, much less how they were going to fix it, it became clear that my reservation was as gone as the sabretooth tiger.

So, now I'm having a bear of a time figuring out which hotels in Atlanta would actually be close enough to D*C to walk to it (Or take the Marta briefly, perhaps). Any help that AskMeFi could provide to get this Chicagoan and a gaggle of Carolinians to Nerd Mecca would be fantastic!

Ok, I haven't been to D*C in 3 years, but ~7 years ago I was able to get a room at Atlanta Marriott Downtown, which is about 3-4 blocks away from the Hyatt. (Go 1.5 east on Andrew Young Blvd, then 1.5 blocks north on Peachtree Street.)

It's a bit of a longer Marta trip, but if you can't find closer, there are plenty of hotels near the Midtown and Arts Center stations that would be easy to do.

It's not *that* late - I'm surprised you can't find a room.

The Con hotels are the Hyatt Regency, the Marriott Marquis, the Hilton Atlanta (255 Courtland Street) and the Sheraton (where you register, 165 Courtland Street NE).

I'm seriously surprised you cannot find anything in February.

I will shut my stupid mouth b/c I just looked at the D*Con site and that is seriously effing weird. I guess there is something else going on at the same time, which is fun for those people, but shit for people who want to go to the Con.

There is the Hyatt Place Downtown, which I've been inside of before but not stayed at:

And, sorry to go into postmania, but the Con has a good list of overflow hotels:

Typically, D*C attendees book their hotel for next year as they are leaving this year. It's not surprising at all that the Con hotels are booked already. (ATL resident here...) BUT, as said before, there are plenty of overflow hotels, especially in Midtown that are a quick Marta hop or cab ride down into Downtown.

If a brief Marta ride is OK, you may want to check out Midtown hotels near the 10th street station. The Regency Suites at 975 West Peachtree.

Agreed with medieval maven about the overflow hotels on the con site. In addition, the con's live journal community has pretty good info.

I just booked at one of the overflow hotels (W Atlanta Midtown) A lot of the overflow places will have a shuttle to the convention hotels, so the distance isn't insurmountable.

The main hotels will still let you book a room, but not at the con rate. We learned that last year when we got our bill.

Another thought to consider is that the Marta stop is right in the middle of the D*C hotels, so riding the train could potentially get you there faster than walking from a hotel that is geographically "closer".
