Name for new female puppy?
January 22, 2012 7:11 AM
Please help us name the new puppy.
We're told she is likely a chihuahua/terrier/something mix. We adopted her from the shelter yesterday. We're really into food and would love to find her a name that's related to baking, cooking or food in general. Extra points for something French, though that's not a requirement.
Any ideas for her?

I have consulted the stars, and clearly the name is "Goonie Bird".

I have a list of possible names for future pets, and one of them is Miette, which means "crumb" in French. Seems like a sweet name for a cute little girl puppy.

There's no rush. Why not wait a week or so and see what his personality dictates? My wife and I have often fostered puppies and kittens from the SPCA, and their names always gradually emerge over the days or weeks while we have them. Their people often retain the names that we've given them, which seems like a sign that we're picking the right names. :)

Whatever you do, once you've decided, go outside when people are around (or go outside in the dead of night when it's quiet) and scream the name five or six times.
My kids once named a pup "Rarf"... I'll never do that again.
Cute dog... I would name it Bacon!

Don't rush to name your dog, I agree that a name will present itself. On the flipside, whatever name you give the dog may not be what you call it.
We named our little rescue terrier Helo since we're both BSG fans, and although it's cute it totally doesn't fit with his personality (Helo the character was a strong, loyal, hero-type, and our dog is wild and crazy and obnoxious). However, we jokingly started calling him Helo Monster (like Gila Monster, get it?), which morphed into Monster, which fits his personality a lot better.

Thanks so much everyone. We narrowed it down to Roux, Miette, Mocha and Cocoa.
From there, we pretty much let her decide. Roux, which was my personal favorite, didn't inspire any response from the pup. Mocha did a bit better, but not as well as Miette and Cocoa. As of this morning, I think she's settled on Cocoa.
Her nickname is cocoa bean - not quite plate of beans, but close.
