Samsung SGH-E316 data transfer software?

Help me locate software to transfer images from my Samsung picture phone to my laptop.

I have a Samsung SGH-E316 model cell phone; the memory is almost filled with digital pictures. I bought the required cable (USB-to-phone), and I set up the requisite cable drivers, but I cannot find any data transfer software which recognizes my phone. Is there a program (preferably free and easy to obtain) that can grab the aforementioned pictures from this particular phone's memory? Bonus points will be awarded if I can use the software to back up my phone book and/or SMS messages.

I have already tried BitPim and have used light to moderate Google-Fu, but so far no dice. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try the site for Samsung's phones?

Mind, my Nokia refuses to operate with the provided software and XP. Another place to check would be your cell provider.

It's not free, but the DataPilot software appears to support the SGH-E316 for both uploading and downloading pictures.

Response by poster: Yeah, I've seen the DataPilot softs, but I'd really rather not pay thirty more dollars just to move a bunch of low-quality digital pictures and back up forty phone numbers. Hell, just the cable cost over $10 after shipping, and that was by far the best deal I could find.

I guess what I am trying to say is that I am incredulous that there is no cheap utility for non-business use?

Best answer: Try Samsung's own EasyGPRS software. It's been a long time since I tried it, but if I remember correctly it allows you to not only download files off the phone but also to synchronise and backup your contacts.

You probably won't find a version which has your model listed, but that doesn't mean that one of the others won't work. I suggest picking a version of the software for a handset that was released just after yours.

Best answer: Looks like you'll need easygprs and the latest drivers. Check out this thread from HowardForums on getting it to work.
