Sandkings in my screen

Looking for a game or screensaver-type program where little scenes or creatures or plants or -something- will change and evolve and interact with itself, without human input.

Computer a desktop running Windows 7, has an Intel i3 processor, and a big pretty screen. I have Millienaire on my Minecraft world and I like watching the townspeople slowly build a settlement. When I had Civ on the computer, ages ago, I used to set it up with all computer players and then see how it would evolve, who would win, etc. I would like something like this, or with little animals that evolve and stuff, or plants slowly grow.... something I could look at for awhile, come back later and go "wow, look how much progress!"

something like the old "Life" game of the little dots, but, hopefully, a little more complex and pretty, to make better use of the technology we have now.

I don't want a "Virtual Pet" that I have to tend to, although if I could reach in from time to time and poke things that would be nice, but ideally it would just run itself without me, and random-ness would make a new experience each time.

I've tried for years to get the old After Dark suite (for the flying toasters and other cool stuff I remember) working on modern machines and have yet to have any luck. /sidetrack
