Drug plan woes.

Can I resolve this exclusion on my drug plan?

I recently joined my company's group insurance plan. When I filled out the initial questionnaire, I answered truthfully when it asked if I'm on any medication (I've been on 20mg Citalopram for the last eight months or so). I don't take any other medications. I was asked to fill out another questionnaire regarding my mental health. Today I got a letter stating that I have been approved for the plan but it also stated: "Unfortunately, it has been found necessary to place the following exclusion for you under the Extended Health portion of insurance. Your Extended Health application has been approved excluding any medication/treatment for anxiety/depression/emotional disorder."

The letter states that they do not discuss underwriting decisions over the phone and that they will require a letter from my doctor to even review this and that this may cost me and there is no guarantee the decision will be reversed. I suspect I'm SOL on this and will just have to deal, but I'm curious - why are the antidepressants excluded? Are these decisions ever overturned? It's not as if I have a long history of mental illness or health problems.

Important to note: I'm in Canada. Thanks folks.

This may be different in Canada, but are they excluding Mental Health coverage because they are calling it a pre-existing condition? Did you have coverage with another insurance prior to joining your company's plan?
