Preview always crashing

I use Preview to view the many lolcats I download off the Internet, but the application is crashing constantly since I "upgraded" to Mac Lion. Further, Preview only seems to display animated gifs as still frames. Recommended solutions?

View animated gifs (and, indeed, other images) in a browser.

I'm a fan of the app Just Looking.

Yup, Just Looking or Xee.

(Curious: did you do an in-place upgrade to Lion, or a clean install?)

Preview crashes on my as well since my in-place upgrade to Lion. I don't use it to view animated GIFS, but PDFs, various images, etc.

Any ideas?

Have you trashed your Preview preferences?
~User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Preview.*
There should be about four different files.

I don't believe Preview has ever displayed animated gifs in motion.

How about just using Quick Look? It's pretty great in Lion, and it has an awesome, seldom-used thumbnail viewer. I just checked, and animated gifs are working for re (but not when you view them as thumbnails.)

This page goes over some of the less-known features.
