Looking for an online resource which will make me into an instant Archivist/Librarian... Ha ha... not really but close. I am setting up an online archive of old records, photos, and other documents. I would like to do this right so that the average Joe can use it but also so that librarians and archivists won't look down their noses at me. Are there any sites out there which have basic information on this sort of thing?

My site will feature old (from 1844) baptismal, ordination, marriage and death records, as well as photos and other media. I just don't know how to properly organize it. Bonus points if you know of a solution which will work with WordPress to do this, or if you knew of some other open-source platform. I already know about Omeka.

You could probably use Wordpress or Drupal. As a librarian, I would totally be chuffed if you used a controlled vocabulary. This will probably make it easier for the average Joe to find things as well. Be consistent with the descriptions.
