What car part is Ryan Gosling rebuilding in Drive?

In the apartment while Standard has his homecoming party.

I literally just saw the movie minutes go.....I want to say it a throttle body or some sort of turbo part? Maybe a waste gate?

It was a carburetor. This was an especially dumb scene in a disappointing movie. Why would a guy who works in a fully-equipped shop take a carb home to play with? He is going to end up with a kitchen that smells like gasoline and/or carburetor cleaner.

Probably because he had taken it out of his car - which was parked downstairs.
