Trying to recall a book from my childhood - "The Travelling Globe/Hourglass" Picture search style but not childish at all, very intricate possibly Victorian-themed artwork picturing different scenes from afar but in great detail - circus, city

My boyfriend and I both remember this book from our childhood and remember being fascinated with the artwork. We've tried manifold Google searches but can't seem to find anything.
Unfortunately we don't remember the artists name.

It sounds a little like Peter Spiers, either People or Circus

Also Tony Sarg's Up and Down New York

Response by poster: Those are really close to what I'm talking about, it's that kind of idea, but the artwork is more surrealist and dark. I also think there may have been recurring items that you had to find.

It wasn't The Eleventh Hour by Graeme Base, was it? No scenes from afar, though, and not really dark, but lots of circus imagery. When was your childhood?

Okay -- this is what I was trying to find yesterday -- I also remember this book from childhood: Anno's Journey. You found a little man on horseback in most of the images.

Also possibly Where's Wallace? not to be confused with Where's Waldo
