I need delicious syrupy goodness

I am in Oakland. This weekend, for brunch, I want a delicious waffle with good syrup and fresh fruit and whipped cream. Help me find one?

I'm willing to drive a bit -- I prefer to stay in the East Bay but if you have a suggestion elsewhere in the Bay Area that's fine too. I'll also probably want eggs or bacon or something, but those are easy to find and I don't care as much if they're top notch, what I really want is a super delicious waffle with the toppings above. I generally prefer more diner-y places to more upscale places for brunch, but again, as long as there is a delicious waffle anywhere is fine. I am not interested in waffles that do not have syrup and fresh fruit and whipped cream. Either Saturday or Sunday is fine, if you know of a place that only does it one day or the other.

Fat Apple's in Berkeley might be worth a shot (it's at MLK and Rose). I can't find the menu online to double check for you.

Best answer: Guerilla Cafe, also in Berkeley, is supposed to have pretty awesome waffles. They do fancy waffles of the day. The last one I heard of was banana date waffles.

Mama's Royal Cafe.

Your welcome!

gah! *You're*.

Also, it doesn't specify the whipped cream on the menu, but if you request it I'm sure they'll accomodate!

Oh god, the Cock a Doodle Cafe has some delicious stuff (I recommend the graham-cracker encrusted french toast, though I know it's not a waffle).

Is it necessary that you purchase these waffles, rather than make them yourself? Because I can make a better Belgian waffle at home than I can find pretty much anywhere outside my house. Ditto for the whipped cream.

One of these comes in handy, but you can do almost as well with a $5 iron that you can find at pretty much any Goodwill.

Bette's Oceanview Diner on 4th St. Rick 'n' Ann's in Claremont. Mmmm.

Ole's Waffles, Alameda: has strawberry or blueberry waffles with whipped cream.

Home of Chicken and Waffles, Oakland: does 2 waffles with whipped cream and strawberries.

Pretty sure Lois the Pie Queen has strawberry waffles. Don't know if they have whipped cream but I'm sure you can get it because it's a pie shop.

Lynn and Lu's, Oakland also has fresh fruit waffles.

I don't know if any of these places have "good" syrup. My idea of good syrup is real maple syrup, and the places I know that definitely have that are Homemade Cafe, 900 Grayson, and Brown Sugar Kitchen; all of which make excellent waffles, but not with whipped cream and fruit.

Response by poster: Thanks for the suggestions. Gurple, I do want to go out -- I actually have a waffle iron and make pretty good waffles, but I really don't enjoy doing it, so I'd rather pay to have someone else do it. And yeah, oneirodynia, I agree with you on the syrup, the real maple syrup is few and far between. And Brown Sugar Kitchen waffles are probably my favorite if I just want a waffle by itself but I really want the whole waffle experience this weekend...

I'm leaning strongly towards Guerilla Cafe because I like the Waffle-of-the-Day concept... but I'm very glad to have a new list of possible waffle (etc.) eateries for the future. Thanks! (Oh, and prior, I just had Cock a Doodle's graham cracker french toast 2 weekends ago. So yummy. I think I'm addicted to brunch...)

If you luck out and get the Yam waffle at Guerilla I'm going to be terribly jealous. I only had it once and it was ... snazzy. I try to go every time I'm back in Berkeley, but I've never hit the yam jackpot again...

A friend recently recommended Brown Sugar Kitchen highly.

Response by poster: As a follow-up: I went to Guerilla Cafe on Sunday. The "waffle of the day" was just a Belgian Waffle with nothing fancy, but it was delicious and had fresh fruit AND some like baked cinnamony apples and creme fraiche and I think real maple syrup. Basically, it was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
