Applying for Illinois state jobs?

Can anyone give me a quick narrative about getting a job with the State of Illinois?

I'm on the job trail and I'm interested in including the state as one of my potential employers. The problem is, the process seems sort of complicated. I'll all for complicated, but if someone who has navigated the whole grading/counseling process can tell me generally how it works, I would be grateful!

Thanks very much!!

I haven't navigated it, but the process seems to be this: you look for the jobs you are interested in. They will say which exams you need to have passed to be eligible for that job. You go to 100 W Randolph, 3rd floor, just to the left out of the elevators, and sign up to take the necessary exams. Once you have taken them, you can apply for the job(s).
