Transcending the self

When is the last time or have you ever transcended the self? Can you describe the experience and what led to it?

The experience involves a lack of boundaries between you and others or you and the environment, a lack of self consciousness, possibly a union with a larger consciousness, possible lack of awareness of time and space.

I was sitting on a pier with a good friend and a curious acquaintance. It was a cold, clear night. I had just smoked a few grams of salvia divinorum and lay back, not sure what to expect. Quickly, the stars gathered into ranks and became a mosaic of curious pottery men. At first I was amused, but this amusement quickly dissolved into...well, I don't know how to describe it. One of only two times I can recall neither my id nor ego intruding upon my perceptions. Afterwards, I was compulsively honest for a day or two.

The highest viewed TED talk is a good story about this, and can be seen here.
