Can you recommend great kid-friendly desserts from around the world? Along the lines of rice krispie treats or banoffee pie.

Do you mean friendly for kids to make them? I'm not aware of many deserts that kids don't like.

Honey bubble - like rice krispie treats, but honey flavoured.

Alcohol-free rum balls. Super easy to make, no baking required, addictively delicious and tons of variations possible (a package of crushed vanilla wafers, a can of condensed milk; mix in melted chocolate chips, cocoa powder, chopped walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, coconut, orange zest, peanut butter or whatever the kids want; roll in chocolate vermicelli, grated coconut, chopped nuts, cocoa powder or just powdered sugar).

Peppermint creams. Also mentioned in Marguerite Patten's Junior Cook Book, which I used a lot as a kid in London.

My daughter and I recently made raspberry fool together - she's six, and it was the perfect level of challenge for her. And delicious.

Response by poster: cmoj, I mean desserts easy enough for kids to make with the minimum of adult supervision.

Here is a great video of three Brazilian kids showing how to prepare Brigadeiros. I made a few batches for a Christmas party last year and everyone loved them.

Eton mess is super easy - break up
merengues, cut up strawberries (this is the only bit that needs supervision), and mix it all up with whipped cream - done! and so tasty.

From Australia you could go with the always tasty Lamington (if you're making them with kids you can use a pre made sponge cake and just make the chocolate icing and have fun dipping) or if you're feeling more adventurous how bout a Pavlova?

How about making "pseudo" sopapillas by frying flour tortillas and sprinkling them with sugar and cinnamon.
yummy!

"pseudo" sopapillas makes me think about fry bread or elephant ears. We just used fridge biscuits, but the result is the same.

What can I say, Mom's family were Oakies

I just made ice cream sandwiches with some 5th/6th graders, but is easy enough for younger kids.

2 cookies (flavor of your choice), ice-cream (flavor of your choice).

Put cookie on plate. Spread softened ice-cream on cookie. Add sprinkles or chocolate chips at this point. Put second cookie on top. Eat.

The one I made was oatmeal raisin with a chocolate/caramel swirl ice-cream and some chocolate chips in the middle. Yummers.
