What's a good, reliable portable speaker I can hook my ipod up to and use at the beach or a campsite? I don't need a massive system. Just something reliable, inexpensive, and producing enough sound to ambiate any occasion.

I love love love my Tivoli ipal, but it's a bit costly. Great sound, small, water resistant. Holds a good charge but needs ac to charge. You can't just put new batteries in it.

We have this ipod speaker from Grace Digital that I got on Amazon for $40. It's well rated, and we like the sound quality. Bonus: It's waterproof and floats. Your ipod will be protected.

I've got an Altec Lansing inMotion. Looks like the reviews are somewhat mixed, but I haven't had any issues with mine. It uses an internal battery (like a laptop), so you won't be able to swap in batteries when it dies. I get 3-4 hours out of it, easy. Also has an FM tuner and an aux jack. The remote (and seriously, I wouldn't get a portable system without one, now) fits into a slot in the back that gets covered up when the unit is closed up. It's pretty slick.

Sounds good enough for me, and I'm picky.
Cheap, also.
