Best way to make Jedi robes?

I want to be a Jedi for the Star Wars premiere.

I know of this site, http://www.degraeve.com/jedirobe, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the method they explain.

Anyone have a particular method they've tried that's good? Post links.

Simplistic has some unofficial-but-obvious Star Wars patterns, if that's your thing.

Response by poster: Where would I be able to find these patterns?

I think dagnyscott meant Simplicity. If they're what I think they are, they make sewing patterns printed on thin paper. You cut the fabric to match the paper and then sew the fabric together.

A Google search for Simplicity jedi pattern gives this page of results.

Call your nearest "yarn barn" kind of fabric store (most big malls have fabric/sewing stores) and ask them. I'm sure they get plenty of people coming in asking and can recommend something.

Best answer: Do you just want the hooded cloak, or do you want the tan robes as well?

For the cloak I would definitely recommend going to the fabric store (you might have some luck at Walmart, depending on the size of their craft section) and rummaging through the Simplicity patterns as suggested above. There are usually a couple patterns in each package, so if you like the hood of one picture, but like the body of another on the same pack, you're all set. I can't speak for certain what will be available in stores, but this page has several patterns that you could look for that would definitely work -- Especially the very top right, I think that's the kit dangyscott is referring to, as it has a pattern that seems to be a take off on the tan robes as well.

The very fastest way to emulate those tan robes is to find yourself a karate gi (the loose shirts and pants they wear) and leave it white, or try to dye it a pale brown. You might be able to find one at a thrift store, or purchase one through a local martial arts school. Or, if you don't plan to take off your cloak, tan linen pants and a tan shirt of some kind will get you the right colours/textures underneath.

The following are pages that do have Simplicity pattern numbers that could help you, should you decide you want to forgo the gi idea: 1, 2, 3.

Best of luck to you! I'm also dressing up, but I made my fairly elaborate costume for Halloween a few years back, by sight using photos online and from magazines, not a method I reccommend in the amount of time you have!

Well if you want to buy something instead, I've always thought that Moroccan cloaks look a lot like Jedi robes. Check out this picture.
