Recommend cooking gear

Can anyone recommend a set of backpacking pots and pans--ideally a two pan nesting set with lids that double as plates? If not, let me know what you use, why you like it, and where to get it. I'll be cooking on an Optimus Hiker+.

MSR is great. I've used them for at least 15 years and love their stuff. Long trips, short trips, car camping- they are fantastic and durable.

The MSR Alpine is the quintessential camping pot and pan set. It's great if you are going to be cooking regular food. There are better options if you are doing freeze dried food or freezer bag cooking.

I tend to shy away from non-stick pans because it's easy to plan to scrub the crap out of camp cookware than it is to be nice to something delicate.

Thirding MSR.

One thought: I've watched a few people buy really nice camp cookware with plastic or rubbery stuff on it (coated handles, plastic lids, etc.). Which doesn't matter on a gas stove or what-have-you, but turns out to be severely uncool if you ever cook on a fire. Like advicepig said, better not to have to be nice to it.

Are you going to be backpacking with them? Is it just you?

If so, I can't recommend this system enough as far as cost, reliability and weight. It's also very easy on long trips to get more fuel.
I go with a 2 cup titanium pot and a fancy feast cat food can stove. I use alcohol for fuel. I eat out of the pot with a short plastic spork.
The stove only weighs 10grams and boils 2cups in about 5minutes.

If you're car camping the Msr set mentioned above is nice.

I'm going to have to give that Fancy Feast thing a try.

I've also got an MSR Alpine and it's great. It only has one lid that can cover both pots, so if you're looking for an additional plate you can pick up an additional MSR mountain plate. Or just have one person eat out of a pot.

The Snow Peak titanium gear is nice and light, but more expensive. It's also much smaller than it looks in the pictures, make sure you check out the gear in person before you buy if you have a chance.

I usually get my gear from REI, Campmor or whatever local outdoor store is nearest.
