Product recommendations for the usual summertime beauty issues....?

Ok, once and for all, is there really a good spray tan or gel that will NOT turn me orange??

I've tried nearly everything from Neutrogena spray mist to Loreal Sublime to Jergen's to the $35 Mystic Tan spray booth up to the more expensive $40 a pop for department store Clarins. Everything turns me orange! I've seen some ladies sporting awesome bronze tans and because they look very even all over, I'm assuming they are spray tans..? (And it only occurred to me recently to simply ask them, but haven't seen any so far this year). I also research every year to see reviews on products, and the raves tend to include a lot of the products i've already used :(

And to piggy back, any good recommendations for cracked and dry heels? I do the sloughing and scrubbing with the appropriate tools, and I lotion them always. Even soon after a pedicure. But, before I dump any money on any more products (like I have the fake tans!), I'd like to get any recommendations from the hive mind.

I greatly appreciate it!! :)

What about a matte powder bronzer?

I've had pretty good luck with the Jergen's Natural Glow stuff. It takes a few days of use to build up some color. I think the darker color leans more golden/orange, and the lighter color leans a cooler light brown.

Aquaphor is the thickest, most amazing lotion/creme. I have the same dry cracked heels and a pumice stone + aquaphor overnight usually does the trick (if my heels are already so cracked that's they're bleeding.. yeah, then I add neosporin in as well and then sock just goes over everything).

Seconding Jergen's Natural Glow. I definitely recommend checking out the reviews at Makeup Alley for even more ideas.

Best answer: Get a pair of Footsmart Heel Wraps, with some Podiatrist's Secret Total Foot Recovery Cream or Podiatrist's Secret Heel Treatment Cream, for the cracked, dry heels. (Both creams are pretty similar). The heel wrap is just to stop this getting over the bedclothes - you could use an old sock padded with a tissue to hold the cream in place instead, but I like the heel wraps better, especially when it is hot. My heels get really cracked at the start of summer and after wearing sandals with bare feet all the time. This treatment is really brilliant - one or two nights with a big glob of the cream on each heel and your feet are like silk again! You don't even have to do this very often - once a month at most. I would never go back to sloughing and scrubbing again, after this - it is a painless and wonderfully pretty way to treat dry heels.

I like Banana Boat's Sunless Summer to add some color to my skin, though I wouldn't say it made me bronze.

I suggest asking the ladies at Makeup Alley just as exquisite_deluxe mentioned. They have an extremely active and helpful board. To get better recommendations, you should know how to describe your skin tone (preferably in MAC nomenclature as its the most common) and find a good photo that shows your color (with your face 'shopped out if you're concerned about privacy). Once you know how to describe your skin tone, you can search for reviews and photos of various products. Even better, I think the best way to shop for products is to study youtube videos made by "makeup gurus". You'll be able to see before & after footage and really evaluate each product before you buy.

Also, you know, a lot of people still frequent tanning beds or sun tanning, so the perfectly bronzed people you're seeing may be getting their color that way.

Response by poster: I would just like to follow-up on this. After going to Makeup Alley and reading reviews, and watching the how-to's on YouTube, St. Tropez Bronzing Mousse is CLEARLY the way to go if you are interested in a great self-tanner withOUT the orange! It's an awesome bronze/golden and I will NEVER go back to anything else. Just to help save anyone some time with searching and wasting money!
